Frans Timmermans
Executive Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for the European Green Deal
Frans Timmermans, formerly Netherlands Minister of Foreign Affairs, joined the European Commission in November 2014 when he took office as First Vice-President in charge of Better Regulation, Inter-Institutional Relations, the Rule of Law and the Charter of Fundamental Rights. In 2019, Mr Timmermans was appointed as First Vice President and was also designated as one of the three new Executive Vice Presidents of the Commission. As Executive Vice President he is responsible for leading the Commission’s work on the European Green Deal and present the first European Climate Law to enshrine the 2050 climate-neutrality target into EU legislation.
